Treatment of wastewater from synthetic rubber production

Synthetic rubber is polymerized from the intermediate products of petrochemical industry. It is mainly used to manufacture automobile tires. It is also widely used in rubber shoes, rubber hoses, tapes, rubber plates, cables and medical appliances. The wastewater generated in the process of synthetic rubber production has complex components. A variety of raw materials are added in the production, and various polymers with different molecular weights are simultaneously generated in the polymerization reaction. Therefore, the wastewater contains many pollutants, including latex and other substances that are difficult to be biodegraded and naturally settled. There are many kinds of synthetic rubber according to different monomers, and the quality of wastewater may be somewhat different, but they all have the characteristics of complex water quality, high organic content, high salt content, poor biodegradability, etc. If discharged directly into the water body without treatment, dissolved enzymes in the water will be consumed, and aquatic organisms will suffocate, seriously affecting the ecological environment. At present, the treatment methods of rubber wastewater mainly include coagulation sedimentation method, coagulation flotation method, electrochemical method, biological method, advanced oxidation method, adsorption method and reverse osmosis method for advanced treatment.
